Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable…

Steve Russell Studios was commissioned by Science (UK) Ltd. to photograph a collection of coralised and intricate bronzes as they emerged from the floor of the Indian Ocean. This project involved several trips to Zanzibar and the Tanzanian coast, working aboard the ‘Baking Tray’ – a semi-affectionate term for the boat on which Steve was based. These works then formed part of an exhibition by British contemporary artist Damien Hirst. Held in Venice from April – December 2017 and showing in two exhibition spaces simultaneously, Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, this exhibition marked the first time both venues were dedicated to showing work by a single artist
